The HolzSchaBe project is a cross-border, bilateral project with partners from Vienna, Burgenland and Slovakia, which focuses on the development of building materials with a low-energy design. The project name stands for the building material wood chips-foam concrete (Holzhackschnitzel-Schaum-Beton).

This building material should have excellent insulation properties and be used primarily for the construction of low energy houses in social housing projects on both sides of the border. The ground breaking aspect of this new building material is that all resources are renewable and available locally.  The aim of the project is to further reduce of CO2 emissions and reduce energy costs in particular.

Under the HolzSchaBe project, the following activities were performed:

  • formulation and development of technology for the production and application of the HolzSchaBe mix
  • Experimental production patterns of the HolzSchaBe mix
  • experimental development and manufacture of equipment for production and application of the HolzSchaBe mix
  • design two variants of the living space in two modifications
  • test of samples and professional assessment of the mixture
  • experimental production of wall constructions
  • public relations and publication of results

In addition to the development of a new building material, this project supports the construction industry in the participating countries and especially the cross-border cooperation between SMEs and research institutes.
