HolzSchaBe Final Conference (09.12.2010)

The project HolzSchaBe (production of a wood chip-foam concrete mix) is a cross-border, Austro-Slovakian project between RPIC Malacky, CERE (Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environment), USTARCH SAV and the TOB (Technology Offensive Burgenland) from  2009  through 2010.

The aim of the project "HolzSchaBe" is to develop the technology for the production and application of a wood chip-foam concrete mixture that should be used in the construction of low energy houses. On 9 December 2010, the project final conference was held at the technology center Eisenstadt, (Austria).

The lead partner of the project, Mr. Guzun of RPIC Malacky, directed the development of the construction HolzSchaBe material and thus contributed significantly to the success of the project. He is also explored the benefits of the new building material and the use of locally available raw materials as an alternative to conventional construction and insulation materials.

Even Mrs. Ortis from the JTS (Joint Technical Secretariat) for Austria and Slovakia was present at the meeting and explained the main tasks and requirements of the program. Available financial resources in the AT-SK program provided the possibility to carry out other projects.

Dr. Burian from BMWFJ (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Family and Youth), which financed the project, stressed the importance of cooperation between Austria and Slovakia.

Mr. Schreiber from CERE (Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environment), one of the project partners, noted that the HolzSchaBe material can be compared with other building materials in terms of its physical properties. Although small scale development work is still necessary, he sees the material as a promising building material which has future potential.

In the end, Dr. Woschitz from Woschitz Engineers, provided insight into the practice of using wooden building materials given the environmental benefits and a pleasant living environment "wooden buildings" provide.
